AIADMK in power, DMK put to rest

The people’s power has been put to display in Tamil Nadu with AIADMK led alliance sweeping the polls slapping of the marginal lead given by various exit polls. The AIADMK lead alliance secured 203 out of the 234 seats in the assembly elections. AIADMK won 150 out of 160 seats going to form a government of its own in the state. DMDK secured 27, CPM 10, CPI 9 and AIFB 1 and 6 seats by smaller parties like AISMK, Kongu Illangnar Peravai, MMK, Puthiya Tamilagam. In the DMK camp, DMK secured 23, Congress 5 and PMK 3.

Jayalalithaa is all set to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the third time (1991, 2001, 2011).

Issues like 2G scam, UN report on Eelam Tamils, family rule, power crisis, price rise among others doomed DMK.

The DMK did not secure enough seats to form the opposition and therefore the DMDK will act as the opposition party. DMDK emerged only five years ago and despite severe criticism from DMK has managed to end up ahead of DMK.
