Chiru makes news with new channel

Star-turned-politician Chiranjeevi’s 24-hour news channel is set to take off in a couple of months. Although the name and other details are still under discussion, the ex-CEO of a general entertainment channel has taken over the reins of this new channel. Right now, the CEO is in the US completing some formalities, and the channel will go on air in July or August.
The actor was one of the directors of a GEC, but stepped down to establish his own channel. “With most channels biased towards one party or the other, we felt the need for a channel that would lay stress on unbiased and fair reporting. We haven’t finalised the name and other crew members, but it will be done soon,” says a source. Interestingly, Ram Charan Tej is the director of a leading channel, while his dad is gearing up to head another one. “There is no rivalry between a general entertainment channel and a news channel since they are two different segments,” the source adds. With more than 15 news channels jostling for TRPs, another news channel is readying to heat up the competition.
